may 7, 2012

ok everybody, stop panicking. I AM STILL ALIVE. i didn't get the chance to write last week because we had a multi-zone conference on da big island (man who would've ever thought that i would actually get to say that in my life? i'm so coool guys.) AND IT WAS SO GREAT. seriously. elder zwick from the 70 came with his wife and they talked to us and i seriously loved every second of it. it was like the spirit was repeatedly punching me in the face AND I LIKED IT. he talked a lot about diligence and obedience, which are always common themes in missionary meetings, but also about having a firm foundation for not only our mission, but for our life after the mission. it was all in all just really really awesome. wish i could say everything that he talked about, but i can't so you'll just have to imagine i guess.

anyway, things are moving along here. GUYS. we have a new investigator and he is SOOO AWESOME GAAH!! i can't even stand it. he was a reference from one of our members, which is in and of itself a miracle because it is like pulling teeth to get our members to help us in missionary work. anyway, this couple in our ward worked really hard to prepare this other couple--the "wife" is an ex-communicated member and the "husband" is interested in the church. our first lesson we talked about the book of mormon and alma 32 about planting the seed of faith committed him to read it and then when we went back to teach again, HE HAD TOTALLY READ and had read the brochure for the first lesson and knew all the scriptures. aah!! and the spirit was really strong when we taught and we committed him to pray about joseph smith and he was like yeah i'm pretty sure i already know that all of this is true. guys, i know you probably think i'm using way too many exclamation marks in this paragraph, but i can't even convey to you how awesome moments like that are for a missionary. i am so happy that i get to teach this man and his...kind of wife. next time we go we're going to commit him to baptism. there is real potential here and i liiiiiiiiiiike it! and i'm really grateful too for the couple that gave us the reference. they come with us to lessons and during the week, because they work with the wife, they're there for a good support. this is my soap box call: BE A MEMBER LIKE THAT. invite your friends to hear the gospel. they need it. it's your duty.

let's see...this week we did a lot of tracting and met a lot of people and got rejected lots of times but also met some people who wanted to hear what we are preaching. hopefully they won't go hide in their houses when we go back to talk to them again, haha. other than that, things are going well. still love my companion, soeur chapman. we definitely have our ups and downs, but she is a good missionary and helps me be better. and she makes really good crepes which is always a plus.

alright well i'm quickly running out of time and i want to attach some photos of our baptism with olga and manihiki. (her husband is set to get baptized in JUNE, by the way. yaaay eternal family!!) actually let me tell you a little bit about how her husband, bryan, is awesome. we were teachign about the word of wisdom and he was like oh yeah i was reading my scriptures the other day and i came across this section and realized that i shouldn't drink coffee anymore so the next day i stopped. JUST LIKE THAT. aaaaaaaaaaah. he is seriously a future apostle or something, i don't even know. but he has a lot of faith which allows him to be obedient. gaah. good patriarch for the fambly. anyway, they're all in the picture with us (don't mind me looking like a drowned rat, i had just showered before the baptism because i didn't want to be stinky for the blessed event.)--me and soeur chapman obviously, olga is the mom, manihiki is the daughter getting baptized, tuaine is the little one, and bryan is the dad. and we love them! ok i gotta go now. i love you all too!

love,
soeur hansen
