hey
everyone,
ok let's talk about some MIRACLES that happened in my life this week. first of all, a little background. we teach this mamie (have i ever told you how you call old women "mamie" and old men "papi" here? well you do. it's cool and i enjoy it.) anyway, so we teach this mamie named antonina. she's a funny lady and we've been trying to make progress with her for forever, to get her to come to church and stuff. so this past week we were teaching her about stuff (obviously) and i was like "ok antonina. do you want to know which church is the true church?" and she was like "yeah!" and i was like "k mamie, how are you gonna know where the true church is if you don't ever go to church?" and she was like "hmm. you know you're right." and then i was like "so are you going to come to church this sunday?" and she was like "yeah, i am." and we were like COOL. so on saturday we called her to ask her if she needed a ride and she was like no no i have a car yada yada it's cool. and my companion was like man that means she's not going to come and i was like NO IT'S NOT TRUE SHE'S COMING. sunday morning comes, we show up at church, saying hi to everyone la la la. and then i look towards the gate that leads to the chapel--guess who is rolling up to the church on a BIKE--none other than mamie antonina. seriously, she's gotta be in the mid to late 60s. and the chapel is NOT close to where she lives (i would know, because we ride our bikes to and from all the time and we're just spring chickens.) i was so happy to see her! she told us about how her husband didn't want to take her to church and they had a big old fight and she was like "whatever i do what i want!" and came to church on her bike. this mamie is seriously so legit. aaaah. miracle. still have a long way to go with her, but you learn to really appreciate the smallest sign of progress that you can get.
another miracle--on saturday we had the baptism of olga and her daughter manihiki. soooo great! gotta love da baptisms. and olga was so so ready. she's already like relief society president material, and manihiki and her little sister tuaine already have all the articles of faith memorized. they are going to be PILLARS for the church in this ward, i know it. AND. guess who else wants to get baptized now? HER HUSBAND. boom bam! eternal familyyyyyy happening in approximately a year! weeeeeee! we started the lessons with him last week and committed him to baptism and he was like YEAH and we were like YEAH! so he fasted this past weekend for a date when he wants to get baptized so tomorrow when we go for our next lesson hopefully we'll be able to get the ball rolling on that. gaah this family...seriously they're just so great. they have been prepared to accept the gospel. my companion and i were just like...i don't even know. the car that got them to the chapel. that probably makes no sense to you. whatever at least i know what i mean. normally i have pictures to send but i left my camera at home and we're at another member's house doin' our mails. so next week you'll have the joy of seeing this future eternal family.
let's see...other than that, we've just been hanging out at the beach and stuff, going swimming and taking naps in dreamy hammocks followed by drinking frothy juices from a coconut. wait what? yeah none of those things ever happen. mainly because i wouldn't be caught dead at the beach--too fat. i wouldn't say no to a hammock and a cold coconut though...by the way, my arms have never been tanner, and my shoulders have never been whiter. we have been trying to work hard to find new people to teach and to help the people we are teaching move forward. not easy, quite hard actually, but always worth it.
gotta go now. write me letters and stuff! love you.
love,
soeur hansen
